Quotes to ponder over: Andre Gide
Pure randomness that I stumbled upon a beautiful quote by Andre Gide. Sadly, I had never heard of his classic works until 30 minutes back but something pulled me towards reading more about him. Although I can’t find a link from where I could buy a ebook of The Immoralist, I came across some really interesting quotes written by Gide. I’m definitely ordering this book soon.
These quotes are motivating, inspiring and definitely give you material to ponder over.
“To read a writer is for me not merely to get an idea of what he says, but to go off with him and travel in his company.”
“Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But since no one was listening, everything must be said again.”
“We prefer to go deformed and distorted all our lives rather than not resemble the portrait of ourselves which we ourselves have first drawn. It’s absurd. We run the risk of warping what’s best in us”
“Fish die belly upward, and rise to the surface. It’s their way of falling.”
“You have to let other people be right’ was his answer to their insults. ‘It consoles them for not being anything else.”
“Envying another man’s happiness is madness; you wouldn’t know what to do with it if you had it.”
“Only those things are beautiful which are inspired by madness and written by reason.”
In other stuff, there’s an uncanny resemblance between a young Andre Gide and Joseph Gordon Levitt!
